Clayton Intermediate School held their National Geographic Bee Jan. 11 with the top 10 finalists from the school competing against one another for first place.

The field of competition originally narrowed from 419 students to 30. The 30 students were then narrowed down to 10 students in the preliminary round to two finalists.

Jason Kaiser placed third, Elisabeth King finished in second, and Michael McFadden won by answering the most questions correct to receive the gold medal for first place.

McFadden will compete in the state level on Friday, April 5.
