A 31-year-old Townsend resident was injured after he interrupted a burglary taking place at his home this morning.
According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred at 12:22 a.m., when the victim arrived at his home in the 300 block of Blackbird Forrest Road. While entering his home, he was immediately struck with an unknown object, causing him to fall to the ground.
A masked suspect struck the victim several more times until he was able to get up and run from the residence, said Cpl. John Day, public information officer for the Delaware State Police.
The victim was transported to Christiana Hospital by ambulance, where he was admitted with serious head injuries, Day said.
The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'8" tall, thin building, and was wearing dark clothing and a face mask. Day said there is no further physical or clothing description available. The suspect was armed with an unknown object. No video surveillance is available for release.
