Chester D. Cook, 90, of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side on Saturday, March 2, 2013.
Born on Nov. 18, 1922 in Midland, PA, "Bud" as he was known by his family and friends, was the son of the Audrey (Nohe) and Chester E. Cook and raised by his mother and step-father, Ollie Hamel.
Bud served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a police officer in Midland, PA for 30 years and a long-time volunteer fireman before retiring.
He enjoyed spending time with family, singing barbershop with his friends, playing cards and working on crossword puzzles.
Bud was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna, DE.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Irene, and his sister, Melva J. O'Shea.
Bud leaves behind two daughters and son-in-laws, Barbara J. and Barry Crissman of Aliso Viejo, CA and Patricia A. and Jim Goodlin Jr. of Smyrna, DE; four grandchildren whom he adored, Michael J. Goodlin of St. Louis, MO, Courtney Thornell of Aliso Viejo, CA, Megan Lauer of Gilbert, AZ and Trisha Goodlin of Smyrna, DE; and five precious great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Savannah, Shawn, Colton and Brooke.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, March 7 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., in Middletown, where friends may visit Wednesday evening, March 6 from 6-8 p.m. Interment will follow funeral services on Thursday at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.
