  • The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Criminal Investigation Unit have arrested two Hartly men in the connection with an early morning home invasion style robbery that occurred on March 6.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 a.m. on March 6, as two subjects pulled up to the residence located in the unit block of Brittney Drive in a blue vehicle. Police said one of the suspects entered the main residence while the other went to a motor home parked in the driveway.
Upon entering the main residence, police said one of the suspects allegedly confronted a 29-year-old victim with a handgun and removed his wallet from his pocket before ordering him outside. Once outside, the suspect then allegedly assaulted the victim knocking him to the ground. The suspect then ran to the motor home where an apparent physical altercation ensued between a 54-year-old male and the two suspects, police said. The suspects then fled the area in an unknown direction.
The 29-year-old victim was treated at Kent General Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the altercation. The 54-year-old victim was initially treated at Kent General Hospital before being flown to Christiana Medical Center, where he is currently listed in critical condition. Police said further investigation revealed the 54-year-old victim had been sexually assaulted with an unknown object during the altercation in the motor home.
Detectives were able to determine through interviews and investigative measures that John E. Edwards, 24, and Robert D. Brown, 24, both of Hartly, were involved in this incident.
On March 8, Edwards was taken into custody at his Hartly home without incident. Brown was picked up while walking along Halltown Road (SR8) near Hartly on Wednesday.
Both Edwards and Brown were charged with first degree rape, two counts of first degree robbery, first degree assault, two counts of home invasion, possession of a firearm by person prohibited, second degree assault, aggravated menacing, wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and second degree conspiracy.
Both men were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2.
Edwards was committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $191,000 secured bond. Brown was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $425,000 secured bond.
