  • The Smyrna High School baseball team starts their season Saturday, March 23 at home against Delmarva Christian School at 11 a.m. Here's a quick look at this year's team:
    2011-2012 RECORD 11-7
    HEAD COACH Jake Emerson
KEY RETURNING PLAYERS Dustin Warren, Larry Voss, Robby McKeldin, Nick Macey, John Richardson, Corey Everage, and Justin Bowens
SEASON OUTLOOK Coach Jake Emerson said the team has the ability of having another great season. Coming off of last season, the boys know what they are capable of, and now have the mentality of a team that can compete and win. Emerson said the players have made great steps in fine tuning their skills in the off season and he has no doubt this will pay off for the team this season.
Emerson said the Henlopen North is a tough conference to play in, but the team has control over their own destiny. With the players the Eagles have, Emerson sees no reason why they can't have another outstanding season. With skilled players at every position, and each of them knowing their role, the players are capable of executing at the plate and in the field.
The team goals for the season are to improve upon last year's record and to have their first playoff berth in over 10 years.
COACH'S QUOTE "I have never had the pleasure of coaching a better group of kids. A coach can't be happier when he sees his players work hard day in and day out, and come together like they have. They understand what is expected of them and work hard to live up to our expectations," Emerson said.
