A shooting incident in the early morning hours of Monday led to the arrest of two Smyrna men on drug charges.
Smyrna Police responded to a residence Monday at 12:18 a.m. in the 100 block of Malvern Lane in Smyrna in reference to a shooting incident, which occurred inside the residence, police said. Upon arrival police found a man with a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The man was transported to Kent General Hospital in Dover, where he was admitted with a non-life threatening wound.
Police said the responding officers entered the residence to ensure that no other victims were still inside. Upon entering the residence, police said approximately 29 grams of marijuana was observed in plain view on a bed in the back bedroom of the residence.
The victim later advised police that he was inside of his friend's residence watching a movie when unknown persons knocked on the door. When the door was opened, a masked person entered the residence with a shotgun or rifle, and shot him in the back. The victim did not know the identity of the person who shot him, but stated that one of the subjects that entered the residence shot him. Police said further investigation revealed that the victim was accidently shot by another subject whom was already in the residence, as he fired upon the intruders.
Police said Kareem J. Watson, 21, of Smyrna, and John R. Campbell, 28, of Smyrna, were both charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both subjects were processed at the Smyrna Police Department and presented at Justice of the Peace Court No. 2 via videophone and released on a $1,000 unsecured bond each.
