  • Albert S. Regener, of Clayton, passed away at home on Sunday, April 7, 2013. He was 84. He was born on September 30, 1928, on a farm between Taylors Bridge and Odessa, DE called “The Rocks.”

  • Albert S. Regener, of Clayton, passed away at home on Sunday, April 7, 2013. He was 84. He was born on September 30, 1928, on a farm between Taylors Bridge and Odessa, DE called "The Rocks."
    He attended schools at Townsend and Taylors Bridge (in a one-room schoolhouse), before graduating from Smyrna High School in 1948. While in school, he played on the basketball and baseball team.
    Al joined the Old Delaware State Guard while still in school. He entered the Army during the Korean War, and served overseas as an electrician for the 399th evacuation hospital. He had also been stationed at Camp Pickett and Fort Lee, both in VA.
    Mr. Regener had been employed by various companies as a serviceman repairing household appliances, farm equipment, and other machinery. Among them are: Boulevard Electric, Smyrna; Southern States Coop., Clayton; Delab, Smyrna; and Clements Supply Co. in Clayton where he served as hardware manager. He had attended various service schools in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Virginia.
    He enjoyed gardening, farm auctions, and hiking at Bombay Hook. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8801, Clayton; and had been a member of the Townsend United Methodist Church and Friendship United Methodist Church.
    He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Marjorie J. Regener; his parents, Harry and Edna Regener; and a sister, Elma Walton.
    He is survived by a daughter, Rhoda Harris, of Clayton; and a sister, Betty Blendt, of Townsend.
    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 12 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna.
    In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to either the Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veterans Blvd, Milford, DE 19963; or to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way New Castle, DE 19720.
