Smyrna Town Council will hold their first council meeting of May on Wednesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m.; the meeting will be preceded by council's reorganization meeting at 7 p.m.

The meetings will be held in council chambers at town hall.

Council voted to change the date of their first May meeting last month once they were informed that their reorganization meeting has to be seven days after the town election. Even though the town election has typically been on the last Monday in April, it was moved this year to the last Tuesday in April due to changes made last year in Smyrna's charter. The move of the election from Monday, April 29 to Tuesday, April 30 resulted in council's need to also moved the reorganization meeting.

Reorganization meeting agenda

The reorganization meeting will see the swearing-in of Councilwoman Joanne Masten as mayor and John Embert as a new member of council. The agenda for the reorganization meeting also includes the appointments of vice mayor, council secretary, and recording secretary; setting the time and place of council meetings; and authorization of signatures for bank accounts.

Regular council meeting agenda

The regular council meeting at 7:30 p.m. only has one item on the agenda under "New Business" thus far, which is for council to set the time, date and place of the special election. Since Councilwoman Joanne Masten has one year left on her term for her now vacant at-large seat, a special election will be held to fill the seat.
