Four candidates were vying for the open seat in Tuesday's Smyrna Board of Education election, but only one could come out on top and that person was Kristi Lloyd with 55.24 percent of the vote.

The seat is a five-year term; board president Lynne Newlin currently holds the seat but chose not to seek re-election.

According to the Department of Elections for Kent County, the unofficial results show Lloyd had 269 votes. Candidate Andrea Hodge had 129 votes, and 26.49 percent of the vote. Candidate Cherylann Borrelli had 52 votes, and 10.68 percent of the vote. Candidate Karen Minner has 37 votes, and 7.6 percent of the vote.
