  • The Delaware State Police is asking the public's assistance in attempting to identify a subject who was involved in a hit-and-run personal injury crash on June 1.
Police said the incident occurred around 12:05 p.m. as a 57-year-old Smyrna man was operating a 1991 GMC Sonoma pick-up truck westbound on Wheatleys Pond Road (Route 300) east of Mt. Friendship Road. The operator of the truck was attempting to turn left into a private drive located in the 1900 block of Wheatleys Pond Road when a vehicle, that was later identified as a dark blue BMW, began to pass to the left on a solid double line and struck the front driver's side of the pick-up with the BMWs front passenger's side, police said. The impact forced the BMW into a recycling container on the left side of the roadway before the car pulled to the right shoulder and activated its hazard lights. The pick-up remained partially in the roadway after the collision.
Police said witnesses at the scene reported seeing the BMW stop momentarily and then flee westbound on Route 300. Video footage obtained from a local senior center shows the operator exit his damaged vehicle to conduct an inspection and then depart in an unknown direction.
The suspect is described by police as being a white male, 25 to 30 years old and was seen wearing a white tank top and dark colored shorts.
The 57-year-old operator of the GMC was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for undisclosed injuries.
