Following the success of last year's local farmer's market, organizers have been counting down the days to the start of this year's market. The wait is almost over, too. Vendors will set up shop Saturday morning for the first of many Saturdays over the next several months.
The Smyrna Farmers Market will return Saturday for its second season this Saturday at 9 a.m. on Market Street Plaza in downtown Smyrna.
Following last year's success, organizers have been counting down the days to the start of this year's market.
"People really seemed to enjoy coming downtown, shopping and seeing people last year," said Planning and Zoning Manager Janet Vinc. "We're really looking forward to more of the same this year."
Volunteer Market Manager Robin Bruner, who is always actively looking for new vendors, added that people can expect to see some familiar faces and products as well as a few new vendors this year.
"The shopping is great and I really hope people come out and support local agriculture and small businesses that are producing locally grown and locally made products," said Bruner. "That's how we grow the market, after all."
It's not just the shopping, though, that Bruner looks forward to. She also looks forward to the people she gets to see and talk to.
"My favorite thing last year was seeing how much everybody seemed to enjoy coming together and socializing," said Bruner. "Each Saturday was more like a casual community get-together."

"We're very laid back and flexible," said Bruner. "We'd love to know about vendors and artisans ahead of time so that we can make space and accommodations for everybody but we don't want people to feel like they lost out on an opportunity either.
