  • The Smyrna School Board members scheduled their annual reorganization meeting at their June 19 Board of Education meeting.
The reorganization will be Monday, July 8 at the school district's central office on Monrovia Avenue. The work session will start at 6 p.m. with the regular meeting scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
The meeting will include the swearing-in of Kristi Lloyd, who was elected to the board in the May 14 school board election.
The school board will also elect new officers and approve the meeting list for the year.
    Newlin recognized
Smyrna School District Assistant Superintendent Patrik Williams took a moment during the meeting to recognize President Lynne Newlin, who is at the end of her second five-year term.
Newlin served as the president for two of the 10 years she spent on council – the 2007-2008 school year and the 2012-2013 school year.
Williams thanked Newlin for her 10 years of service on the board and presented her with two gifts.
Then Newlin took a few minutes to thank the board for their support over the years and talked about the importance of education and community.
"It is all about the community, the district, and the education we provide," Newlin said. "And through community support, education follows."
