  • The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred west of Clayton Wednesday afternoon.
Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said the incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Alley Mill and Clayton Delaney roads.
The investigation so far indicated that the victim, identified as Kathy S. Goguen, 58, of Dover, was at the intersection on a 2012 Kyus Yager motor scooter when she failed to remain stopped at a stop sign. As the scooter entered the intersection, it struck the right side of a Dodge Neon, driven by Megan E. Brewer, 20, of Dover.
Goguen was thrown from the scooter as it fell onto its right side; Brewer, who had attempted to swerve out of the way, brought her vehicle to a controlled stop west of the intersection.
Goguen, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Brewer's 21-year-old passenger was taken to the Smyrna Urgent Care Center, where she was treated for minor injuries and released. Brewer was not injured.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this case, Fournier said.
