  • Delaware State Police arrested a Townsend woman Sunday morning shortly after she allegedly attempted to rob the Wawa at 1515 N. DuPont Highway.
Police said the incident occurred at 5:23 a.m. Sunday when Amy L. Oliver, 38, purported to purchase a pack of gum at the business. When the cashier opened the cash register, Oliver allegedly reached into the register and attempted to remove money. Police said the cashier and Oliver briefly struggled over the money until another employee approached to intervene. Oliver then fled the business empty handed.
Police said witnesses provided responding troopers with a description of the vehicle, including a license plate number, in which Oliver had fled. Troopers responded to the residence to which the vehicle was registered and took Oliver into custody without incident.
Oliver was transported to Troop 2 where she was charged with out count of second-degree attempted robbery. She was released on $1,000 unsecured bail.
