  • William Dawkins says he's "a lucky man" to be able to compete in athletics as a senior citizen.
At 85, Dawkins is representing Delaware in the Senior Olympics this week in Ohio, taking on the nation's best senior racquetball players.
Previously, he's represented the First State in softball and carried the state flag in the 2009 Senior Olympics in California. In the past, Dawkins also has participated in the shot put, discuss, javelin, long jump and standing broad jump.
Dawkins has been training at the Dover Air Force Base's racquetball facility. The base sent Dawkins a letter congratulating him on his athletic achievements.
"We are proud to support him and wish him the best in his competition," wrote U.S. Air Force Commander Col. Steven B. Harrison.
