  • State Police arrest two men in Smyrna drug bust

  • The Delaware State Police Kent County Drug Unit has arrested two people, including a Smyrna man, after the culmination of a month long drug investigation at a Smyrna motel.
    The Kent County Drug Unit executed a search warrant Thursday at approximately 2 p.m. with the help of the Kent County Governor's Task Force (GTF), State Police Special Operations Response Team (SORT), and Dover Police Department Drug Unit a the Economy Inn Motel located at 4133 South DuPont Highway in Smyrna.
    Upon entering the room, police said Anthony Jones, 38, of Smyrna, failed to follow commands to get on the ground and fled into the bathroom where he allegedly began to flush cocaine down the toilet. SORT members were eventually able to take Jones into custody without further incident.
    Police said Elzie R. Gibbs, 50, of Dover was taken into custody without incident. During the execution of the search warrant, detectives located 15.5 grams of cocaine as well as drug paraphernalia used to distribute the cocaine, police said.
    Jones and Gibbs were transported back to Troop 3 in Dover.
    Jones was charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, first degree conspiracy, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said Jones was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court No. 2 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $31,000 cash bond.
    Gibbs was charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, first degree conspiracy, tampering with physical evidence, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said Gibbs was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court No. 2 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $29,000 cash bond.
