  • The Town of Smyrna took the next steps in the Smyrna Police Department expansion project Tuesday.
The town and project manager Ed Ide started the demolition of the old Public Works building next to the police department on Glenwood Avenue. The police station will expand to the site of the old Public Works building.
Smyrna Police Chief Wil Bordley said it feels great to moving forward with the project.
"It's a long time coming but it feels great," Bordley said. "The town really deserves this. It's only fair to the citizens and to the officers."
Bordley said the demolition of the building will take one to two weeks to complete; it just depends on the weather.
Project Manager Ed Ide said the official ground breaking for the project will be in mid to late September. It will take about a year to complete the expansion.
