Choosing to become a pastor is something Rev. Dawn Christopher struggled with for some time but 26 years later, it's the best decision she ever made.

Rev. Christopher started at Byrd's AME this spring and is enjoying her time there so far. She recently took a few minutes to talk with the Sun-Times about why she went into the ministry and what she likes about being a pastor.

Q Why did you decide to become a reverend?

A Going into ministry was not an easy decision for me. I struggled with the call for a number of years. After much wrestling, I surrendered to God. It was the best decision I ever made.

Q What do you enjoy about your work?

A The best thing about what I do is being able to make a difference in the lives of others. It is a blessing to see the presence of God grant peace, healing and deliverance from the struggles of life.

Q What are the biggest challenges?

A One of the biggest challenges is feeling inadequate or helpless in some situations. But, I've learned that's when God does His greatest work. It calls for trusting and relying on Him.

Q How are things at Byrd's AME Church since you started?

A There is an excitement at Byrd's AME Church. It is a great place to worship and fellowship. The people at Byrd's are family. We are growing and welcome anyone to come and worship with us.

Q What do you like about working in Clayton?

A Clayton, Delaware is like being in the country. I like the atmosphere and the pace.
