  • Smyrna Police arrested a 42-year-old Smyrna man Aug. 12 in connection with an alleged relationship he had with a 17-year-old girl.
Kurt Kruger, of West Cook Avenue, was arrested on fourth-degree rape charges where the victim is less than 18 years old and second-degree unlawful sexual contact.
According to court documents, Krugar had an alleged sexual relationship with a female he coached at Gold Medal Gymnastics in Dover. The police report states the 17-year-old became involved in a relationship with Krugar in approximately August 2012; the two would go to the movies and or hang out at his residence on Cook Avenue. On several occasions the two would kiss and Krugar would allegedly fondle the victim. Court documents state Krugar performed a sex act on the victim in his residence in October 2012. The victim did not turn 18 years of age until January 2013.
Smyrna Police Lt. Norman Wood said via email that police were informed of the alleged relationship through the victim's parents. The investigation is ongoing and it is still to be determined whether Krugar may have been involved with other victims at the club, Wood said.
Kruger was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 via videophone and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of a $25,000 secured bond.
