  • Smyrna man arrested on assault charges

  • Smyrna Police arrested a Smyrna man this weekend on assault charges following the report of a fight.
    Police responded Saturday at 7:28 p.m. to the 600 block of South Carter Road in reference to a report of a fight. Upon arrival, police found that all the subjects had fled the area.
    Police said an investigation into the incident revealed that a man approached a group of subjects standing in a parking lot, started an argument, then grabbed a golf club and struck an 18-year-old man in the face with it. Police were able to locate the victim in the hospital and later identified the suspect.
    Police said Robert G. Mundell, 49, of Fortune Way, was charged with first degree assault, second degree conspiracy, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and disorderly conduct.
    Mundell was processed at the Smyrna Police Department and presented at Justice of the Peace Court No. 7 via videophone and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of a $21,000 secured bond.
