  • The man who was reportedly armed and suicidal in the Whitetail Run development near Kenton has been taken into custody without incident by Delaware State Police.
    At about 7:30 p.m. the Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team entered the house on West Deer Trail Road and found the 55-year-old man uninjured. He was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation, according to State Police Sgt. Paul G. Shavack.
    Police had evacuated several nearby homes and closed the entrance to the development after receiving the report about the man at about 3 p.m.
    There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
    The residents who were evacuated from the neighborhood or who weren't allowed to enter the development have now been permitted to return to their houses. Roads within the White Tail development have been reopened.
    Troopers continue to investigate this incident. No charges have been filed at this time, Sgt. Shavack said.
    PRELIMINARY REPORT:
    Delaware State Police have evacuated several homes and blocked off the entrance to a Kenton-area neighborhood after a report of an armed suicidal man barricaded inside a home in the neighborhood.
    The man is in a home on West Deer Trail Road in the Whitetail Run neighborhood off of Seven Hickories Road (Route 42) just east of Kenton, according to State Police Sgt. Paul G. Shavack.
    Police received the report about the man at about 3 p.m.
    The Delaware State Police Special Operations Response Team and Conflict Management Team are attempting to make contact with the man to attempt to persuade him to surrender.
