Delaware State Police will host an open house for the explorers at several locations beginning Sept. 9.
The following events include:
6:30 p.m. Sept. 26, Troop 1 at Concord High School, 2501 Ebright Road, Wilmington; 7 p.m. Oct. 10, Troop 2, 100 Lagrange Ave., Newark; 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10, Troop 6, 3301 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington; 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Smyrna High School, 500 Duck Creek Parkway, Smyrna; 6 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Delaware State Police Academy, 1441 N. DuPont Highway, Dover; 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12, Sussex Central High School, 26026 Patriots Way, Georgetown; 6 p.m. Sept. 9 at Troop 5, 9265 Public Safety Way, Bridgeville; 6 p.m. Sept. 24, Lewes Senior Center, 310 Nassau Park Road, Lewes.
The program consists of young men and women who have an interest in law enforcement. The program teaches a variety of police procedures including fingerprinting, evidence collection, and patrol procedures. The program also offers opportunities for the National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference and the Federal Leadership Academies.
The minimum qualifications include a mature, clean cut, clean shaven individual with a 2.0 GPA and no criminal convictions. The age range is 14-20 years of age and at least in the ninth grade; college students are welcomed as well. A parent or legal guardian must be present if children are under the age of 18.
A $40 program fee and a copy of last school year grades will need to be provided.
