It's been more than 24 hours since the centerpiece of the new Affordable Care Act — a new online health care marketplace — opened to the public.
It hasn't exactly been smooth sailing.
At last count, some 4.7 million people have visited the site and more than 190,000 calls to the site's 24/7 hotline were logged. But how many actually succeeded in signing up? Obama's camp won't say, but clearly many haven't.
At least half a dozen times Wednesday, we tried and failed to access the site.Whoever is manning the site's Twitter feed has been doling out apologies all day in answer to complaints.

There was at least one silver lining to the situation. We were able to get in touch with a Healthcare.gov customer service rep in under 2 minutes by using their 800 number. As sweet as the lady who answered our call was, she had no answer for when the site would un-kink itself.
"You might want to try back during off-peak hours," she advised, rationalizing that people were most likely sign on early in the morning and after work hours.
If you were one of many who were shut out of the site, don't fret. There are still a full six months to enroll in a health care plan of your choosing.
If your state is running its own health care exchange, you might have better luck getting online by accessing their sites directly. We could get into Hawaii's state-run health care exchange just fine, however, New York's was down as of this afternoon.
