  • A local fugitive was arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop Saturday in Smyrna.
Smyrna Police stopped a vehicle on South Carter Road Saturday at 6:57 p.m. for driving around the barricades and disregarding the road closed signs.
After making contact with the occupants in the vehicle, it was determined that the passenger was a local fugitive. Police said the passenger was removed from the vehicle and searched, which revealed he was in possession of another person's prescription of Methadone pills. In the area of his seat was allegedly a baggie containing approximately 42 grams of suspected marijuana, police said.
Kevin L. Wright, 34, of West Mount Vernon Street, was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
He was processed at the Smyrna Police Department and presented at Justice of the Peace Court 7 via videophone and was committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of a $7,000 secured bond.
