  • The Smyrna Farmers Market will cap the 2013 season Saturday, Oct. 12 with the final day of the market. The market was originally scheduled to end Saturday, but was extended a week to tie in with other events in downtown Smyrna.
"We decided to take advantage and be a part of the Civil War events," Market Manager Robin Bruner said.
The farmers market is held in front of Smyrna Town Hall on South Market Street Plaza.
In the second year of the market, things have slowed down a tad bit. Bruner said they continue to get the same customers who come out and support the market. Bruner said there are certain people, like her and her husband, who have come to rely on the market to get their produce and meats.
Though the second year of the market hasn't been as successful as the first year, Bruner said it won't deter them from having the market in 2014.
"We're ending this year with the commitment to do it again next year," she said.
While there will be a Smyrna Farmers Market next year, some things may change. Bruner said the group will look at other locations and possibly a change in day.
"We'll look at what we can to do help the sustainability of the market."
There's still a chance for vendors to sign up for the Oct. 12 market. The group is hoping to get as many vendors as they possibly can. Bruner said they would love to get more artisans to participate.
Anyone interested in being a vendor at the Oct. 12 market can call Janet Vinc at Smyrna Town Hall or message the group on their Facebook page.
"This is a wonderful place to shop for local produce and local meat that's hormone free and you now where it comes from," Bruner said.
    A holiday market
Bruner said there will be a holiday market on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 12 to 4 p.m. at town hall. Bruner said they're hoping to have carolers sing throughout the market; Santa will stop by at 2 p.m. and lead children to the Smyrna Museum on South Main Street.
Vendors are needed for the holiday market as well.
