The Justice for Evan charity event will be Sunday, Nov. 3 at 12 p.m. at Hartly Fire Hall. Sponsored by Tough Luck Tattoo in Dover and planned by Smyrna resident Kristen Todd, the fundraiser is being held to help spread the word about Evan and Nikki Dudley.
Nikki Dudley was nearing the end of a deployment with the United States Air Force in Nov. 2012 when she received word that her young son, Evan, was in critical condition; Evan would eventually pass away from injuries. The incident is currently under investigation by the Delaware Attorney General's Office.
The fundraiser was originally planned to be at Citizens' Hose Company in Smyrna but due to the number of people that RSVP'd for the event, it will now be held at Hartly Fire Hall.
The fundraiser on Nov. 3 will include free food, music, a baked goods sale, face painting, games, art and tattoo auctions, and more.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will be donated to the Evan's Heaven Foundation to help single mother's that have lost a child to help pay for funeral costs.
Todd said she got the idea for the fundraiser because she felt horrible about the situation and knew Dudley didn't really have the money to take care of everything after Evan passed away.
"Hearing her story with a child around the same age tugged at my heart. I felt I had to do something," Todd said.
Todd's goal is to raise $5,000. To donate, go to http://justice4evan.com/.
