Two poker events will be featured this year as the Central Delaware Marine Corps League launches its 2013 Toys for Tots campaign.
There will be a motorcycle poker run event Nov. 23 and a poker tournament at Dover Downs on Dec. 7. The tournament has a $45 buy-in and $1,000 guaranteed. Players who bring a new toy will begin with triple chips.
Bikers who participate in the poker run will be picking up cards at American Legion posts in Dover and Seaford. Other sponsors include the Vietnam Veterans, the Legacy Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Toy boxes will go out to businesses, fraternal organizations and churches on Nov. 1 and 2. The boxes will be collected from Dec. 16-18 and toys will be distributed on Dec. 21. “Last year toy collections started off slowly,” said Marine Toys Coordinator Dennis Sipple and the Marine of the Year for Delaware. “And our membership was worried. “Kent County residents and businesses opened their hearts and generously gave the Marine Corps League thousands of toys.”
“We ended up distributing more than 7,000 toys, 124 books and 828 ‘stocking stuffers’, said sipple.
