Clayton Elementary Principal Mike Dulin was honored by the Smyrna Board of Education at the school board's Oct. 16 meeting at North Smyrna Elementary School.

Dulin will retire Thursday, Oct. 31 after 35 years of working in the Smyrna School District. Therefore, the school board and Smyrna School District Superintendent Debbie Wicks took a few minutes at the Oct. 16 meeting to honor Dulin.

Wicks praised Dulin for his work in the district, stating he embodies that values of the district. During her speech, it was evident Wicks wasn't ready for Dulin to retire.

Dulin said he was fortunate to have worked in the district.

"There is not a better place to work for," Dulin said. "I'm so fortunate to have been able to come back and work for Smyrna."

Dulin thanked Wicks and the school board for their support over the years.

"I don't know how you're able to do everything you do but I do certainly appreciate your support," Dulin said to Wicks.

With Dulin's retirement, the school board also approved at the Oct. 16 meeting the promotion of Assistant Principal Deborah Chadwick to principal. The district will now need to hire an assistant principal.

Dulin said the staff at Clayton Elementary is in great hands with Chadwick in charge.
