  • The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office is investigating this morning's fire just south of Smyrna that left a man in critical condition.
    The blaze, reported shortly after 4:30 a.m., occurred in the unit block of Juniper Court in Holly Hill Estates near Route 13. When Citizens' Hose Company arrived, flames were shooting from the mobile home.
    One male resident was transported to Bayhealth's Kent General Hospital and admitted in critical condition, said Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio.
    No other injuries were reported.
    The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Chionchio said. Investigators were unable to locate any smoke alarms inside the dwelling.
    Damage was estimated at $50,000, Chionchio said.
