  • The Delaware Department of Transportation and the Delaware State Police are informing motorists to expect traffic delays for the annual Punkin Chunkin event, Nov. 1 through Nov. 3 in Bridgeville.
In order to accommodate heavy volumes of traffic, motorists coming from the north and west will be directed down Redden Road to Chaplins Chapel Road to enter the parking area. Motorists coming from the south and east will be directed from State Route 404 to U.S. Route 13 north to Rifle Range Road. Once on Rifle Range Road, motorists will be directed to the parking area by on-scene personnel. Traffic will not be permitted to access the event from the State Route 404 and Chaplins Chapel Road intersection. In addition, traffic wanting to use Chaplins Chapel Road, between Redden Road and Russell Road, during the event will only be permitted to travel in the southbound direction. This includes residents living along that roadway.
DelDOT will be posting directional signs for motorists approaching the area and will also warn motorists of expected traffic delays. Motorists are asked to obey the direction of police and DelDOT personnel around the event area and plan extra time to account for possible traffic delays.
Motorists can adjust their routes or travel times by using DelDOT’s Smartphone application. The app is available for Apple and Android phones and tablets and can be downloaded free at the Apple and Google Play stores or at www.DelDOT.gov by clicking on the link to the stores.
Additional information can be found at www.DelDOT.gov or on the radio station WTMC 1380 AM. For more information about the event, visit www.punkinchunkin.com.
