  • Smyrna man arrested for offensive touching after allegedly spitting on cop

  • A Smyrna man has been charged with offensive touching after spitting in the face of an officer.
    Smyrna Police were assisting Probation and Parole officers with a prisoner on Dec. 3 at 12:16 a.m. The man was advised that he was being committed to the Department of Corrections for his violation of probation. While being escorted from the processing room, the man turned to an officer and spit directly in his face.
    Matthew W. Clavijo, 23, of the unit block of East Commerce Street, was charged with offensive touching of another with saliva. Clavijo was presented at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of a $1,000 secured bond.
