Sussex tech exploded on offense in an 87-72 victory over Smyrna Thursday night
Sussex Tech outscored Smyrna in three of the four quarters enroute to an impressive 87- 72 victory over the visiting Smyrna Eagles Thursday night. The Eagles fell to 2-3 before the Holiday break. The Ravens improved to 3-1. They will host New Hope Academy Charter on Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
The Ravens opened a 9-0 lead at the beginning of the game before the crowd had settled into their seats. But the hard-working Eagles quickly got back into the game and tied the score at 12-12.
From that point on, the Sussex Tech offense took over the game, and the Raven defense established its dominance for the remainder of the contest.
By the end of the first quarter, the Ravens led 21-14. Sussex Tech continued to control both ends of the court and extended their lead to 38-25 by the end of the first half. The Eagles continued to hustle, but the Ravens continued to impress on the court to the joy of the partisan home crowd.
Smyrna played the Ravens even in the third quarter, but still trailed by a wide margin at 55-42.
Both teams threw out their defenses in a wild fourth quarter, which saw both teams combine for an amazing 62 points in the 12 minutes of play. Unfortunately, the Eagles were outscore by two points in the final quarter.
RaeKwan Deshields and Shi'wuan Sykes put on an offensive display, as each scored 13 points for the Ravens.
Aubre Allen and Jeff Munro each scored 9 point to lead the balanced attack. Stedman Kpana led Smyrna with 19 points on the night, while Latrelle Lee netted 17 points for the Eagles, Ja'vier Worthy had 15, and Javon Hunter added 12 points.
