  • Delawareans encouraged to recycle Christmas trees

  • Delawareans are encouraged to deliver their Christmas trees to one of the many yard waste recycling facilities located throughout the state.
    Christmas trees will be accepted for recycling from December 26 to Jan. 25, 2014 from families at the facilities listed below. Trees will not be accepted from commercial haulers or tree vendors without prior approval. Artificial decorations, including hooks, wire, tinsel and ornaments, as well as wood and metal tree stands, must be removed from all trees before dropping them off for recycling.
    Kent County will collect Christmas trees from January 6-17 (on your regular trash day) for customers in trash districts that have the yard waste collection service.
    Please note that Christmas trees are no longer accepted for recycling at any Delaware State Park locations.
    Christmas trees, stripped of all decorations and detached from tree stands, can be dropped off by Delaware residents for free at any of the following locations:

    8:30 am. to 4:30 p.m. New Castle County, Polly Drummond Hill Community Yard Waste Demonstration Site, Pike Creek area on Polly Drummond Hill Road, about 1/2 mile north of Kirkwood Highway.
    7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday; Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. South Chapel Yard Waste Site, 1034 S. Chapel St., Newark, (new site, operated by Holland Mulch); Accepting yard waste at approximately 10 Brookhill Drive until work on entrance off of Route 72 is complete; closed and Jan. 1 and 2.
    9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday; 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26-Jan. 3 at the Copeland's Mulch Depot, 2 Honeysuckle Drive, Stanton. Free is the tree was purchased at Copelands; otherwise, $2.
    7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday; 7:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at Holland Mulch, 135 Hay Road, Edge Moor. Closed Jan. 1 and 2.
    6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday; 6 a.m. to noon Saturday at Wilmington Organic Recycling Center, 612 Christiana Ave., Wilmington; Closed Jan. 1.
    7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday at Sussex County Blessings Greenhouse, 9372 Draper Road, Milford. Closed Jan. 1.
    7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday at Blue Hen Organics, 33529 Fox Run Road, Frankford. Closed Jan. 1.
    9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Grizzly's Landscape Supply Service, 18412 The Narrow Road, Lewes. Closed Jan. 1.
    7:30 a.m to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday at Kaye Construction, 22288 Coverdale Road, Seaford. Closed Dec. 26-Jan. 1.
    9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday at the Selbyville Pet and Garden Center, 38205 DuPont Blvd., Selbyville. Closed Jan. 1.
    7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at the Stockley Materials, 25136 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown. Closed Jan. 1.
