The first Annual S-Factor singing competition at Smyrna High School is Friday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $4; audience members can also pay to vote for their favorite vocalists to go into the next round of the singing competition. The competition will be held in the auditorium.

The top 12 singers will perform and then will be narrowed down to the top six by the end of the evening; these singers will move on to the finals on Friday, Jan. 24. A panel of judges and audience members decide who advances.

Smyrna High School Drama Club Vice President Caleb Wolf said a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Smyrna High School teacher Virginia Atkinson and her family as her son Colby was recently diagnosed with leukemia.

"Since she is out of work, we thought it could help her," Wolf said via email. "The goal of the S-Factor is to provide pure vocal entertainment as well as fight cancer, which I think is pretty cool because you see athletes being able to make a difference with their athletic ability. Now the vocalists of Smyrna High can make a difference with their voices."

Wolf, who is a junior, said his goal next year is to continue the S-Factor and to continue a giving back mentality attached to the event.

The 12 contestants are as follows: Raven Luckett, Autumn Birney, Julianna Markel, Beryl Nyamburi, Shawn Tazewell, Megan Wolf, Diego Boatang, Elana Gantzer, Georgette Class-Peters, Kayla Taylor, Aziza Watkins, and Caleb Wolf.
