  • Smyrna High School football player Jose Ortiz has been a bright spot on the football field for the Eagles the last two years. Ortiz is hoping to continue his success at Fairmont State University next year.
Fairmont State University is in West Virginia.
While he had already signed his Letter of Intent to play at Fairmont State, Ortiz and his parents gathered for pictures Friday afternoon at SHS. His coaches Clay Lloyd and Mike Judy were on hand for the photos.
Ortiz, a guard on the offensive line, was named to the Third Team All-State roster this year after being named First Team All-State last year.
Ortiz plans to study biology at Fairmont.
"It has a great atmosphere. It's a small town like Smyrna," Ortiz said. "The coaches have great experience and I really connected with the other recruits and the players."
While other schools such as Wesley and Shippensburg were also recruiting Ortiz to play football, Ortiz knew where he wanted to go.
"Once I went to Fairmont, I just knew."
