  • Henlopen Confernece basketball playoff scenarios broken down

    • email print
  • With the basketball regular season winding down to a close, it’s time to crown conference champions ahead of the state tournament.
On the boys’ side of things, Caesar Rodney has already won the Henlopen North division and they now await a winner in the Henlopen South division.
Right now, the Henlopen South is being contested by Woodbridge and Milford. Woodbridge has one game remaining against Seaford, while the Bucs have two games remaining against Lake Forest and Delmar.
If Woodbridge defeats Seaford on Wednesday they will be crowned the Henlopen South champions and they’ll play Caesar Rodney in the Henlopen Conference Championships Game on Friday, February 21 at Sussex Tech High School starting at 7:00 p.m.
However, if Woodbridge falls to Seaford and Milford defeats Lake Forest and Delmar that will force a tie atop the division and a playoff will be necessary. If that occurs, Woodbridge and Milford would meet on Thursday, February 20 at Sussex Tech starting at 6:30 p.m. with the winner facing Caesar Rodney on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday with the site to be determined.
On the girls’ side, Milford has already clinched the Henlopen South division, while the Henlopen North is a little trickier.
Smyrna and Sussex Central are both in action tonight, with the Eagles taking on Sussex Tech and the Golden Knights hosting Dover. If both are victorious tonight, there will be a three-way tie atop the Henlopen North forcing a playoff.
If that scenario plays out Smyrna and Sussex Central will meet on Wednesday, February 19 at Dover High School starting at 6:30 p.m. The winner will take on Caesar Rodney on Thursday, February 20 at Polytech High School starting at 6:30 p.m.
The winner of Caesar Rodney vs. Smyrna/Sussex Central will play Milford in the conference championships game on Saturday, February 22 at Polytech beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Tickets for both the playoff games will be $5.00, while conference championship game tickets will be $7.00.
