  • A Tuesday night storage structural fire east of Smyrna that caused $500,000 in damaged has been ruled accidental by the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office.
The fire was reported by a neighbor Feb. 18 at 9:20 p.m. in the 1000 block of Raymond Neck Road in Smyrna. The Leipsic Volunteer Fire Company responded to the call and arrived to find a large agricultural storage structure heavily engulfed in the fire. Assistance was immediately requested from numerous nearby fire companies. The fire was placed under control at 10 p.m. with no injuries reported.
Deputy State Fire Marshals responded to conduct the investigation and determined the fire was accidental in nature and was caused by an electrical failure inside the large storage structure. The structure was used to store equipment and vehicles used for agricultural purposes with the structure and all interior contents sustaining heavy fire damage.
    Damages were estimated at $500,000.
