Smyrna's girls' basketball team beat Sussex Central 50-47 in a Henlopen Conference game Wednesday night at Dover High School.

Senior Taylor Price scored 18 points to lead the Smyrna Lady Eagles to a 50-47 victory over Sussex Central Wednesday night, in a Henlopen Conference game played on a neutral site at Dover High School. The game was necessitated to help break a three-way tie for the Henlopen North regular season championship. Smyrna will play Caesar Rodney Thursday night at Polytech High School. After a sluggish start, both teams picked up the offense in the second quarter. The Lady Knights build a small lead, but the Eagles' Amari Brooks scored on a long three at the end of the half to tie the score at 22-22. Smyrna turned the game around in the third quarter by playing aggressive basketball at both ends of the floor, and outscoring Sussex Central by a 16-5 margin to build a 38-27 lead. Another turning point in the game came in the fourth, when Smyrna's senior guard Alexus Stroud left the game after hitting her head on the hardwood. While she was out, Price and Alyson Davis handled the ball effectively on offense. In the meantime, Central's Jasmine Hudson scored ten points before she got into foul trouble. Stroud returned in the waning moments and added two free throws, which proved to be the game-winning points.
