  • Smyrna town officials are pleased to announce the completion of a series of community videos now available for view on the town's website.
The videos, which were filmed and produced at no cost to the town, are designed to highlight the unique cultural assets and quality of life in Smyrna.
Town officials partnered with the National League of Cities (NLC) and CGI Communications, Inc. to produce the videos. Smyrna is a member in good standing with the NLC, which is the nation's oldest and largest organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunities, leadership and governance. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
Assistant to the Town Manager Dawn Thompson said Smyrna was able to take advantage of the NLC's Community Service Video Program to do the videos. Thompson said the scripts were done and locations selected last summer, while the video shoot took place in September. Editing and voiceovers were done in the fall/winter months.
There are four videos available for viewing, each about one minute in length. The first video features a welcome message from Mayor Joanne Masten. The subsequent videos focus on quality of life, tourism, and the local economy.
"We wanted to put a specific focus on the things we believe will propel Smyrna in the future," Thompson said. "People have finally discovered that we are one of the best kept secrets in the Mid-Atlantic Region. We are blessed to have the best of both worlds. We are a charming small town where you have the opportunity to develop quality relationships with your neighbors. But we are also a centrally located community with easy access to major transportation hubs, factor which is of great consideration in the expansion of business and industry."
The town is hoping to attract new residents, visitors and businesses through the videos. As for the finished products, Thompson said town officials think the videos are great.
"We hope our residents enjoy the videos and also hope the videos attract new families and businesses looking for a great place to call home," Thompson said.
To view the videos, log on to the town's website: www.smyrna.delaware.gov. On the left side of the homepage, click on the "Community Videos" tab. A new window will appear and take you to the videos.
