  • A five-vehicle accident Friday in Smyrna led to the arrest of a 39-year-old Middletown man on charges of drunk driving and vehicular assault.
Smyrna Police said Friday at 6:37 p.m. Brian E. Jones, of the 200 block of Horseshoe Drive in Middletown, was driving his Ford pickup truck on Route 13 when he allegedly rear-ended a Dodge Journey stopped in a turn lane at the intersection of Pharmacy Drive. Police said the hit forced the woman driving the Dodge Journey to spin, resulting in a chain reaction in which three more vehicles were involved.
Police said two drivers suffered from serious injuries in the accident. Jones was taken to Kent General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Jones was charged with first-degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence and other alleged offenses. Police said Jones was issued a $2,550 secured bond and released pending a future court date.
