  • Smyrna High School DECA student members place well at conference

  • Six students and one advisor from Smyrna High School attended Delaware DECA’s Career Development “Make It Count” Conference on March 10 at Dover Downs Conference Center.
    Brandon Harper and Kyle Tieman competed in “Sports and Entertainment Marketing” team event and placed first.
    Ally Vance and Alex Portnoff competed in the “Buying and Merchandising Team Event” and placed in third.
    Melayna Hall and Germita Dorsorne competed in “Fashion Merchandising Promotion.”
    Tieman was also elected the 2014-2015 Delaware DECA State Treasurer.
    In addition to competing in these events, the students attended workshops on topics such as dress for success, interview skills, and sports marketing, and transitioning to college.
    Smyrna’s DECA Chapter received an award for “Outstanding Community Service” for the 2013-2014 school year. The SHS advisor for this organization is Kay Conaway.
    DECA is a national organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
