Students from Smyrna High School will take part in a “Black Tie Affair” on prom night Saturday, April 5.
This year’s junior and senior prom will take place at Dover Downs Hotel. “It’s a Black Tie Affair” is the theme for the formal event, and colors for the prom will be red, black and silver. The theme was chosen by the junior class officers, and advisors Angie Hewes and Jim Hewes. The theme originated from Kyle Coburn’s brainstorming idea of “007”, said Mrs. Hewes.
The biggest challenge in planning for prom was dealing with cancellations and the loss of Dover Sheraton.
“It changed the date dramatically and increased the overall cost of prom,” said Mrs. Hewes. “It was originally scheduled for May 17.”
The prom will feature dancing to music from Spotlight Productions and a photo booth run by Escudero photography. Dinner will not be served this year but there will be heavy Hors d'oeuvres served. Doors will open at 6:15 p.m., and dancing will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Prom King and Queen were chosen by the senior class during lunches April 1. Prom King and Queen will be announced following the Grand March at 6:30 p.m., where family and friends can gather to take photos of the prom attendees in their formal attire.
The nominees for Prom Court are as follows: Katelynn Norvell, Annalisa Trabaudo, Raven Luckett, Lindsey Reynolds, Mecca Andrews, Linkeya Sample, Maurice McFolling-Nichols, Tyler Carney, Aleyyo Monsanto, Jaquan Anderson, Jose Ortiz, Othniel Edmonds, and Dylan Keller.
