  • James E. “Jimmy” Snow, age 79, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. He was a lifelong resident of Smyrna, near Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge, only leaving the area to attend and graduate from Mercersburg Academy and for a tour in the U.S. Army. He returned home to work on the family farm where he grew up, and spent the rest of his life living “in the neck.”
During his lifetime, Jimmy was active with Ducks Unlimited, becoming a lifetime member and one of the Old Drakes. He was one of the founders of the Whitehall Neck Sportsman Club, which holds an annual wild game dinner and donates the profits to needs in the local community.
Jimmy was an avid sport fisherman, and spent many good years running the Snow Goose at Indian River, DE and in Florida. He had a love of golf, and was an owner at Garrison’s Lake Golf Course in Smyrna for many years. He also enjoyed traveling by motor home, including taking it to Dover Downs for the NASCAR races. For the last 20+ years, he and his wife Helen took the motor home south, attending rallies and spending winters at The Great Outdoors in Titusville, FL.
He is survived by his wife Helen, son Bruce Snow (Jessica), daughter Lisa Hastings (Jennings), stepson Dan Bracken, grandchildren Jonathan Snow (Whitney), Benjamin Snow (Becca), step-grandchildren Carl Bracken, Ashley Kennedy (Aaron), Julie Stafford (Brian) and Kendra Hastings, and several great-grandchildren. His oldest living relative is his aunt, Virginia Del Maynard, who resides in Virginia, and he is also survived by a brother, William Smithers Snow Jr.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., in Smyrna. Funeral services begin at 1 p.m., followed by burial at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Whitehall Neck Sportsman Club, c/o Lisa Lloyd, 1159 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901, or to Asbury United Methodist Church, PO Box 330, Smyrna, DE 19977.
