  • A Smyrna man was arrested on heroin and marijuana charges this morning, Thursday, May 8.
    At approximately 6 a.m., officers from the Smyrna Police Department Special Tactics and Response (S.T.A.R.) team used a search warrant at a residence in the unit block of Locust Street in Smyrna, with assistance from the Clayton Police, Delaware Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (D.A.T.E.), and the Kent County Paramedics.
    The search warrant was issued following an investigation into illegal drug activity at the residence, Smyrna Police said.
    Officers arrested Jessie Mahoney III, 38, of Locust Street, on charges of maintaining a drug property, possession of marijuana, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
    Mahoney was processed at the Smyrna Police Department and arraigned by video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2. He was issued an $8,500 unsecured bond and is awaiting a court date at Kent County Court of Common Pleas, police said.
