  • Third Eye Blind has been off the charts for close to a decade but the ’90s alternative rock band didn’t miss a beat Saturday afternoon while performing on the Main Stage at the 2014 Firefly Music Festival in Dover.
With over 20 years and four records under their belt, Third Eye filled the air with ’90s nostalgia with almost all of the band’s hit songs including “Semi Charmed Life,” “Jumper” and “Losing a Whole Year.”
The San Francisco natives aren’t on tour this summer but lead singer Stephen Jenkins told the crowd it was a treat for the band to play the festival and introduce fans to new music.
Jenkins was quite the entertainer and expressed his love for the crowd on numerous occasions. He also talked up the band’s upcoming album, which they are currently working on, stating it is the fans that drives his creative spirit.
“The energy and spirit I need, I’m telling you, it comes from you guys. Thank you,” Jenkins said.
Third Eye Blind’s 45-minute set was full of energy and didn’t seem like it was long enough, yet Jenkins and his bandmates made every minute count as the fans sang along with nearly every song. The unique alternative pop-rock sound that Third Eye Blind is known for was a breath of fresh air in a sea of indie/folk rock bands at Firefly this weekend. Fans were reintroduced to the songs they loved, while other concertgoers possibly found a new band to enjoy.
The performance was the first for Third Eye Blind at Firefly but Jenkins said during the final song of the concert – “Jumper” – that they’d like to return next year.
“We hope to see you all again,” Jenkins said.
In the end, Third Eye Blind was a crowd-pleaser, especially Jenkins who jumped off the stage, slapped some hands and even planted an unexpected kiss on the lips of a fan.
