A break in the town's substation has caused a loss of power for the entire Town of Smyrna Thursday night.

Town representatives said Thursday evening that the power went out in town around 4:30 p.m.

As of 7:30 p.m. Mayor Joanne Masten said the outage is a result of a break in the substation. The issue isn't something town crew can address; however, engineers are en route to address the issue.

The Town of Smyrna gets their electric from the Delaware Municipal Electrical Cooperation (DEMEC).

The town's Facebook page says the town can't turn on the standby gas turbine generators and it could take several hours to get the power back on.
