  • Clayton Police arrested a Smyrna man last week following a fight in which the suspect allegedly fire a gun and attempted to leave the scene of the incident.
On July 25 at approximately 1:14 a.m. a Clayton Police officer was traveling eastbound on Wheatleys Pond Road in the area of The Spice Club located at 4793 Wheatleys Pond Road when the officer observed a large crowd in the parking lot of the establishment. The crowd consisted of 20 to 30 people that appeared to be engaged in a large fight, police said.
The officer observed a male subject allegedly fire five shots from a handgun into the air. Police said the officer attempted to make contact with the male subject, at which time the suspect allegedly tried to evade the officer by running westbound from the parking lot. The officer was able to take the suspect into custody following a brief foot pursuit. Upon searching the area where the suspect had fled, officers were able to locate a 357 Magnum revolver. Upon checking the revolver, police said it was found that the handgun was reported as a stolen firearm.
