  • Bayhealth recently announced that Michelle L. Bretzius, DO, has joined Bayhealth Family Medicine in Smyrna. She is welcomed to the practice by Christina Bovelsky, MD, John Fink, MD, and nurse practitioner Sandi Voss. Dr. Bretzius is now accepting new patients.
The practice is part of the Bayhealth Medical Group, a partnership of highly trained physicians, their clinical staff, and an administrative support team that operates practices throughout central and southern Delaware.
“We are happy to welcome Dr. Bretzius to our practice,” said Dr. Bovelsky. “She is helping to expand our already robust family medicine services for the community of Smyrna and surrounding areas.”
Dr. Bretzius cares for patients from infancy through all stages of life. In addition to offering primary care, as a doctor of osteopathic medicine she practices osteopathic manipulative treatment, or OMT. This involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. It’s often used to treat muscle pain, and can help patients with a number of other health problems including asthma, sinus disorders, carpal tunnel syndrome, migraines, and menstrual pain. OMT complements, and sometimes may replace, drugs or surgery.
Dr. Bretzius earned her medical degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 2011 and a bachelor’s degree in biology from Pennsylvania State University in 2007. She completed her residency in family medicine at Memorial Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. Dr. Bretzius is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.
