The Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill (DHCI) is seeking volunteers for its annual Friends & Families Day event for residents from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, on the hospital’s grounds in Smyrna.

Many residents are not able to enjoy the day fully because their loved ones or family members are not able to participate. To ensure that all residents are able to enjoy the festivities, Adopt-A-Resident volunteers are needed for the day. Volunteers will help to make the day memorable by escorting the resident to lunch, fun outdoor activities and special treat stations, and also spending quality time with each person.

Participants may bring a picnic lunch to share with a resident (any meal restrictions will be provided), or guests may enjoy a sub provided by DHCI.

Groups and organizations are welcome to participate in Adopt-A-Resident. Depending on the size of the group, they may adopt a unit, which typically consists of 20 to 30 residents.

Activities at Friends & Family Day will include a picnic lunch, snow cones, watermelon, popcorn and cotton candy. There will be DJ entertainment, as well as such children’s activities as a dunk tank, train barrel rides, a special clown, mini-horses and face-painting.

If you or your group are interested would like to participate in Adopt-A-Resident for Friends & Families Day, please contact Jennifer Bobel, Volunteer Services Coordinator, at (302) 223-1011 or by email at no later than Friday, Aug. 29.
