  • Delaware teens will be hosting community events throughout the state this month including in Smyrna at the Greater Smyrna/Clayton Boys & Girls Club.
As part of the 4-H Food Smart Families program, the University of Delaware Extension 4-H and teen ambassadors will host a series of community events to help local youth and their families to live healthy on a budget.
Teens will conduct food demonstrations and make presentations on what they’ve learned from the 4-H Food Smart Families program.
The program will be at the Smyrna Boys & Girls Club on Wednesday, Aug. 27 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
The events will be a celebration of several weeks of summer programming where 4-H teens, who have been trained to deliver the 4-H Food Smart Families program, will present on what they’ve learned. Teens will conduct demonstrations on healthy eating, and inform families of smart budgeting and shopping tips. Participants will receive groceries at some events and have a chance to be entered into a drawing for prizes. The culminating event will be the 4-H Quest for the Clover 5K Run/Walk & 4-H Fitness Fun Day, which will take place on September 27.
The 4-H Food Smart Families program was created by National 4-H Council and ConAgra Foods Foundation to address hunger and obesity in the U.S. by equipping more families with nutrition education, cooking skills and grocery budgeting skills. The program will target 2,500 youth and their families in Delaware.
The Boys & Girls Club is located at 240 E. Commerce St. in Smyrna. For more information, contact Andrea Jeffers at 659-5610 or ajeffers@bgclubs.org.
